Belle Vue in the 60's
When a trip onto the infield encoutered the dreaded barrels or a lamp post!
Barrels made the cars airborne
It was certainly a deterrent and made for spectacular pictures
as Pete Farrington discovered.

Car 53 rolled and Stuart just went over the top of it

The car continued to roll and so I managed to capture this shot of Stuart in mid-air.

Mike Whittakers car was launched into the lamp post which deflected him skywards knocking the lamp off the top before coming vertically down. He didn't know that his leg was out of the car till he saw this picture!

Walter, the starter, is seen expressing his displeasure at the chap with the screwdriver whose job it was to look after the fence!
Short Wheelbase
The Nelson track was built around a football pitch. It had four straits and four corners but by the end of the evening - it was a circle!
